When you visit St. Mary’s you can expect to encounter a worship service that is intentional in including all who are present into the flow of our cooperate worship.
The 8:00 a.m. service of Holy Communion is one that uses traditional language, words like thee and thou, and there is no music. This gives the service a more contemplative feel and connects us to a manner of speaking that has been all but lost in the contemporary world.
The 10:00 a.m. service of Holy Communion uses contemporary language and includes a full range of music. We sing hymns that come from the musical resources available in The Episcopal Church along with various settings of service music, which complements our worship. While there is nursery care provided, children are always welcome in our worship of God.
The church service is participatory and involves communal prayer, responses, and movement. The celebration of Holy Communion is done by everyone and we each have a part in that celebration. As we enter our worship on Sunday through the use of The 1979 Book of Common Prayer the prayers that we pray connect us to other Episcopalians who are praying the same prayers to God. This connection, through prayer, gives us a real sense of what the Communion of Saints is all about.
Our Christian education, which meets during the school year (September-May), takes place in two different buildings adjacent to the church. The nursery and Sunday school for young children ages 4-9 takes place in the wing off of our parish hall which is the building behind the church. The Adult Forum and Sunday school for older youth ages 10 and up takes place in the building to the side of the church which we call the Hirst House. If you are unsure where to go anyone will be happy to assist you.
There are always coffee, doughnuts, and fellowship in the parish hall after each service and you are invited to participate.
